Been a loooong time since I was able to engage with this place. This was my 'go to to relax' place in the evening...Thing is, I've been hellish working through lockdown getting a shop busted open. We opened new moon June or July...can't remember..Boris was saying we allowed to open on the waning moon...as if any self respecting man in black would open any new venture on a waning moon. uh- uh. That first sliver of Diana..that's the day we opened.
So...place is open and it's an astonishing place. I'm raising funds to knock a wall down and open a tai chi studio and community care centre so we've got 4 rooms of amazing rubbish. I've been a dealer all my life and my dad was a collector and so I'm now parting with his stuff and also remnants of old deals that I made and so records and posters as well as his old coins and postcards and stuff - It really is an awesome place, it's amazing.
I used to use this record shop in Bradford for picking up stock. She had a basement of cheap rubbish where I got the first Cure album that had been scribbled on by some kids, A 'Robert' had put his name on it and a 'Michael' and a 'Lol'...pesky vandals, but I only wanted it for the music...got it for £2 cos of these guys scribbling their names on the sleeve ... And so that's the kind of shop I'm running..the one where the mistakes get away and collectors can walk out with a £50 postcard for a quid cos I sure as hell can't check 'em all (the records..now that's a different matter...I knows ma records...and yup..I sold that signed one for £50 not too long after...bad news being I also sold Paris for a tenner and Wild Mood Swings for a tenner..this was the 00s and I had to sell the stuff that I wanted just to stay open and pay the rent..awful time for records)
It's been great so far...I don't want to become a shopkeeper again though...teaching still and hopefully the shop will only be open a year before I close it down and open the studio. All good stuff - thing is ---I miss ya's and just want to say hello here. X
