Given my recent experience, I thought I would share this with any of you who have or are considering buying a sony device that claims to use Vtuner as its internet radio provider. DON'T!! In March I bought the awesome STR DN1040 receiver. the reviews were awesome, the audition i gave it blew me away and, being an ex-pat in Hungary, the ability to receive internet radio from around the world was just too much to resist. However, it seems sony and vtuner have had a spat. The result being any stations that I had been previously able to listen to are no longer available. The service has been decimated and the only BBC station I can now receive is Radio Cornwall.
Sony are playing this off as not their problem and the device is still functioning correctly. To make it absolutely clear, ONLY SONY EQUIPMENT is affected. No other brand using vtuner as a radio provider has a problem. If you are having trouble with your gear, don't take any crap from Sony. Return it to the retailer or service centre citing a "quality fault". It's important as sony's procedures dictate they handle "quality fault" differently to "malfunctioning" or other technical failures. And!! If you did save stations to your favourites list DON'T DELETE THEM. They serve as proof they existed when you first had the device. Again, this will only bother anyone using the internet radio function, so it's up to you.
The newer range of products uses Tunein and Pandora, which work perfectly (although pandora is only available in certain regions).
