I should probably hazard a guess, if Duran Duran did Christmas songs, they'd be Christmas number ones. I'd like to say I was an avid listener of Duran Duran, but I'm not. Regardless, the fact remains, I should think Duran Duran would give Cliff Richard a jolly good run for his money. Ipso facto.
Incidentally, Girls On Film is my favourite song. Lyrically, it's a masterpiece.
Please, don't shoot the messenger. I'm just stating the obvious/what everyone else is already thinking regards Duran Duran. Oh palease, just release a Christmas song a go straight in at number one, Duran Duran. For no other reason, but to prove me right.
For a short while, I casually dated a Duran Duran fan who backed her schoolbooks with Smash Hits posters of Simon Le Bon. During the 80's, 90's, and right up until now, to the best of my knowledge, I've never once dated, let alone even spoke to anybody who remotely liked Cliff Richard. I could even go as far to say, I've never knowingly dated or knew anybody who owned/borrowed/had a friend make a tape/accidentally listened to/recorded a Cliff Richard song onto a cassette from the radio. Whereas, I have probably unwittingly dated an infinite amount of Duran Duran fans/former fans/what have you. And they'd ALL probably agree, if Duran Duran had written and recorded a Christmas SMASH HIT, it would have reached the number one spot.

back in the 80s I really enjoyed them ... I still have there 3 first cds in my collection and even upgrated them when they were released as Deluxe. DD had some really good songs and strong lyrics but they got too big for their own good and from 1985 it was all downhill.
I just had a quick look at wiki ... they are actually still more or less active again. These are their album releases in the last 10-11 years ... not bad. Duran Duran (1993) Thank You (1995) Medazzaland (1997) Pop Trash (2000) Astronaut (2004) Red Carpet Massacre (2007) All You Need Is Now (2010)

Seems like there are not many Duran fans here. Really liked them when I was a kid (because I realized early on (circa 1984 or so) that girls that liked Duran thought boys that liked Duran were cool). I have liked them on and off over the years and they are touring this summer. I have never seen them live and was looking for an opinion or two. Are they worth seeing? Appreciate the opinions...
I went to Lollapalooza Argentina last weekend with my kids (they are really into dj's and that stuff). And I saw Duran Duran (for the 3rd time in the past 12 years). I must say it was the best DD concert I saw. I mean: nothing compares to The Cure, but they do it: good (and short) setlist, good sound, good Simon's voice, good mood. And to my surprise: some songs arrangements are really "new" (and it was great) including Space Oddity medley with Planet Earth.
By the way: I think I understood something finally, and I really enjoy Dubstep and Trap and something more: Marshmello, Borgore.. If any of you have a few spare minutes take a listen to some of these DJ's/Producer... as well as Skrillex, Jack U
(I remember these "hippies 60's look" trying to get into 80's, and I use to laugh! hahahaha!!)
Are they taking Coxon out on tour? Can't justify their London date and it's in a potential Pixies window too
Donno. Quick google search says he performed with them last year on occasion. No idea if he will this year.
You could always do Duran Duran at Hyde Park and catch the Pixies a couple nights before with Pearl Jam. 😉
Haha, that's the problem - I find PJ dull as dishwater these days and the decent tickets are all gone. I'm not paying top whack for a festival support slot.. I'm holding out for a Pixies indoor warmup or nothing! DD in Hyde Park is tempting but if you're not golden circle then Hyde Park is full of bucketlisters. I do fancy seeing them again tho, it's been 15 years since last time and I love Coxon
