Former label mates on Merciful Release with The Sisters Of Mercy, the Violets released their first "proper" album last year. Made Glorious was funded through a Pledge campaign & a stormer of a collection it is too. Here's a taster
Basically the original line-up, but with Jo (from Berlin Black) now on bass, they have re-ignited a goth legend that released one of the greatest goth tracks of all time. THIS BEAUTY
They frequently play shows around the UK & now they are going to take a stroll down the West coast of the USA
If you're in the neighbourhood, give them a go. You'll not regret it
As some of you may have heard, Si recently suffered a pretty serious haemorrhagic stroke and is currently in the Neurological Rehab unit in Hospital. He may be there for quite a while. Access to studio facilities and other normal music biz stuff is somewhat limited from hospital, but Si is determined to fulfil the Pledge, it may just take some time. Over the next couple of weeks Si intends to make the rest of the tracks on Mortality available as a download. We really apologise for the delay in getting your stuff to you, it will happen. Please be patient. Thank you If you want to keep tabs on Si’s progress he has clunky internet from hospital but is posting on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ArchViolet…;. please say hi. Again, many apologies, normal service will be resumed as soon as physically possible. xxxx
"In February 2016, Simon Denbigh from The March Violets, D-Rok, Batfish Boys and former Nurse to the Doktor in The Sisters Of Mercy suffered a life-changing stroke, which completely paralysed him down his left side.
Following six months of physiotherapy (courtesy of the marvellous people at Chapel Allerton Hospital), Simon has finally gained the strength to be allowed home, albeit newly disabled and generally struggling to get around.
In order for Si to remain in the flat he has lived in for over 30 years, it needs heavily modifying so that a person with these new needs is able to get around it easily so as to assert his independence. Anyone who knows Simon will be aware of his keenness for independence!
The main aim of this gig is to raise enough money to pay for a fully-kitted out wetroom to replace his current bathrooom, which will allow him to shower independently and do all the things that a proper wet room allows you to do instead of a regular bathroom... I'm sure you can fill in the blanks.
The quote for this is between £4000 and £5000. (As soon as you put 'disabled' into the request, it seems to add about 50% to the quote.)
If there's any extra money left over, it will go into modernising his kitchen, allowing him to cook and clean it more easily.
None of the performers or crew at this gig will be receiving payment for this gig.
The Membranes are Manchester's premier post-punk underground group, specialising in thought-provoking and artful energies. Fronted by creative powerhouse John Robb, the band will have just finished a week of dates with The Sisters Of Mercy, and have received rave reviews for their latest album Dark Matter/Dark Energy.
Chris Catalyst (that's me) from The Sisters Of Mercy, Eureka Machines, Ugly Kid Joe and The Ginger Wildheart Band will be opening the show with an acoustic set. Probably the last one I'll do for a while.
Suggested donation on the door of £10. There will also be merch to buy, some March Violets rarities and other bits.
There will be no advance tickets for this gig. Get down early.
Special guests TBC next week.
Please share this around as much as you can.
Hope to see you all there. Chris."
If you can't make it, feel free to please support the venture with a direct Paypal donation to si@evilbaby.com
From what I'm hearing, Si is none to pleased they're carrying on without him.
Could play it cool and be like, "Oh, yeah. I know who that is", but I'm not familiar with the MV and looked it up. He must feel left out.
They're right about it not being practical to tour with him after his stroke. I've met him & he's such a top fella. No airs & graces. Just a stand up bloke. & he likes a cider or two. Tom & Rosie make it sound like he's down with it. But it seems that's not really the case. He's probably more cross at himself not being able to do it rather than the fact they are doing it. I think I would be too in his shoes

Aw, I had no idea of the back story. It must be very difficult for him.
