Compared to The Clash they were pretty average really. No getting away from the fact Strummer was a great, but The Mescaleros were really quite poor even by his standards. In any case, there is a The Clash, Strummer & related thread, so no real need for a new one

What on earth has you think that, though? I enjoy watching videos of live performances by Joe & The Mescaleros a lot more than I enjoy watching live videos of The Clash. They are BOTH great bands - too different too compare though, wherefore as I am utterly convinced there will be people who do not like The Clash but like the Mescaleros! But seriously. Aside from the fact that we are on a fansite for The Cure, why does Simon have an own thread but the lead singer of another band doesn´t ??? I think that by narrowing it down to ´The Clash, Strummer & related´ we value Joe Strummer only in the context of one of his bands, do you know what I mean? After all, he´s had more bands, he did solo stuff, he was an actor...
I watched Mysterry Train lately... and found it to be truly amazing. The interpersonal connections and relationships in this movie... so fascinating for those of you who don´t know, Joe Strummer played Johnny "Elvis" there, and he did that fairly naturally

If you like them, then that's cool. I found them to be pretty dull to be honest. But each to their own eh?

There is a Simon thread because Simon is a member of The Cure, Whether he's been involved in other projects, it's still Simon relevant. There's also a Pete Murphy/ Bauhaus etc thread & that works perfectly well I think. So split Joe from The Clash is basically going to result in a thread where The Clash will inevitably be the main subject as his acting was not exactly oscar worthy & his other bands were nothing compared to The Clash which was one of the best bands that ever existed (IMHO).
mescaleeeeeeeeroh-ohs...they were just great. Me, I preferred 'em to the Clash but that's just cos of me liking the room re arranging each year. I don't want to hear London Calling for the 900th time when I can hear Yalla Yalla for the 50th. I'm sure if Mescaleros came first I'd prefer that experimental stuff on Sandinista or the clumsy beatbox of Cut the Crap...anyway
