I posted this on HL too as I have no idea what to expect really. Got a wonderful reply & now pretty clued up on local watering holes & tipples. So.... From next week, I'll be in Fort Worth (TX) & wondered if any of our Texan Communiteers could give an old goff some pointers as to good places to go of an evening. Or even hook up for a cold beer or three. & yes, I fully expect all the goffs in hot weather comments. I've seen the forecast.
I'm not too familiar with Fort Worth tbh. Dallas on the other hand I know pretty well.
The first bar/club that I would recommend that you visit would be The Church (shares a space with Lizard Lounge, another club I like. The Church is open on Thursdays and Sundays). You are in luck too 'cos it looks like they have a The Cure tribute band playing on the 23rd, LeCure.
You can also head down to the lower greenville area. Not to familiar with the bars/clubs there but they have an awesome live music venue called Granada Theater.
Ok, now here is the lowdown on the Austin scene, at least the hangouts that I like to go to.
Looking for a dive bar? That would be Valhalla. When we go out this is normally our first stop to get the first couple drinkies. Wednesday nights are vinyl night and the bartender Seth will play whatever you want.
I would also recommend The Jackalope, Red Eyed Fly and Casino El Camino, for either drinkies...TJ and CEC for dinner as well. They all have kind of that rockabilly vibe. The Jackalope has the best blackened Caesar burger eva!
For clubs the first I would recommend would be of course my stomping ground, Elysium. They play goth, industrial and EBM music on Saturday nights unless they are having an event. Wednesday nights is mid-wave so that is when they play more music from back in the day. Thursday nights is Nocturnity which is the night that all of the vampires come out (I'm not kidding. These people actually think they are VAMPIRES! )
Another nice club, which just happens to be located a few doors down from Elysium, is Barbarella. They have a pretty good 80's night on Fridays. That is where I spent the later half of my birthday celebration.
