Live report: June 26th, INmusic festival, Zagreb

For The Cure’s first ever show in Croatia, they’ve chosen about the only place in the country that wasn’t in Game Of Thrones (except for perhaps the lakes of Plitvice where they might have killed a dragon….perhaps).
But let’s not dwell on that. But the city itself does have an awful lot of dragon statues & the word on the street is that there is a cursed snake queen buried in the tunnels of the Medvedgrad fortress so it would be an ideal time to debut the Dragon Hunter’s Song in the set.
It also boasts more museums per capita than anywhere else in the world including the truly bizarre Museum of Broken Relationships which exhibits mementos such as your ex’s toenail clippings, the shelves he couldn’t put up straight, jazz mag collections, toilet seats left up & dishes waiting to be washed up (according to the bloke down the pub).
Croatia’s capital has had a colourful history, with Romans (they get everywhere), Jesuits, Habsburgs & various other ne’er-do-wells building cathedrals, squares & so on, but I won’t bore you with facts.
It’s biggest claim to fame though is that it served as a location for Hollywood blockbuster Sophie's Choice which won Meryl Streep the oscar for best actress in a leading role. But the real stars of the film were Kamentia Street, castle Reiser & downtown Zagreb, who all portrayed Warsaw flawlessly.
But, & this cannot be over stated enough, the single most important thing about Zagreb is that it has amazing free wifi.
Making his merry way there today is curebelgrade & let’s hope he has a wonderful time & enjoys his Zagrebački odrezak & Paprenjaci with a few pivovara (it’s even got a dragon on the label!) before having a wonderful time at the show.
