it sounds like a new album is a bit further away, than we hoped though
It's getting a lot closer, probably only 5 years off being released but might have to be postponed so it doesn't clash with the 35th anniversary Disintegration shows.
I was happy to hear him say he genuinely enjoys singing some of the songs off of Disintegration they include in almost every show (Pictures of You, Lullaby, Plainsong) and that he sings them almost every show because he feels people would be sad if they didn't hear them. Although I'm personally a little tired of hearing those at most shows, I respect his reasons for including them.
Re: the R&RHof ceremony: "I didn't really think there would be that many Cure fans in the audience."
Does he really not get it? Doesn't he know how many people hang on every *possible* chance to see them?! Wow. C'mon Robert, catch the clue train.
I enjoyed hearing him speak about his reservations to participate in the ceremony. I'm so glad what Simon said sunk in with him.
He said he had a great few days in NY. But you all didn't come drink beer on my roof!
"You like something because you like it... You don't need to be told what's good and bad." 1,000 times yes. In all aspects of life.

Add lovesong/fascination street/disintegration to that list. Almost every show.
The thing is that people wouldn't be sad if they didn't hear those songs for once. When you have the best back catalogue in music there isn't a single song that the cure HAVE to play. It's not like Robbie Williams who will have to sing Angels every time he goes on a stage for the rest of his life.
It's Robert's own fault he's reduced the Cure's legacy to being....one good album disintegration and a few fun singles.

Well, you and I differ in our opinions on TC's legacy, as I know from the legacy post.
Had to look up Robbie Williams. Dear God, why would anyone demand to hear that song, or more importantly, how can anyone tell the difference between that song and thousands of other whiny drivel pop hits?
Whether or not *that many* people would be sad if the hits were skipped at a Cure show, what I like is that Robert's heart is in the right place here. If anybody else said that, I'd probably be annoyed. But I'm just happy his rationale for including those songs isn't, "I can play them with my eyes closed and think about my grocery list - I'm just in it to cash in." He seems genuinely not to want to disappoint people AND more importantly they are songs he still likes performing. Based on what I know of him (at least his public persona, which I think is pretty much "what you see is what you get") if he ever tired of playing them, he simply wouldn't bother.

If you look at the stats from 2016 they tell a bit of a different story.
Fascination Street & Disintegration don't even feature in the top 10 (Disintegration was only played 26 times in 2016 out of 87 gigs).
Yes, Disintegration features near the top, but given it's one of their best selling albums, not to mention an album they are proud of, there's no surprise in that. As for their legacy, you can't deny Disintegration is an important part of it (although the world did carry on after 1989) &, as Robert said, if it had been released today it probably wouldn't have been so huge for them.

It's definitely a recent thing about Bob caring about playing certain songs in case people are sad if they don't play them. Upto around Bloodflowers he wasn't bothered about playing the hits or crowdpleasers
roskilde festival 2001: Out Of This World Watching Me Fall Want Fascination Street Open Trust Maybe Someday Shake Dog Shake From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea The Kiss End One Hundred Years 39 Bloodflowers Encore 1: Inbetween Days Just Like Heaven A Forest
And that was for a festival with a lot of non cure fans too
I enjoyed listening to the interview, a few points, Why does he keep on insisting he turned 20 during pornography? He spent his 21st birthday gigging a seventeen seconds show!
The original disintegration tracklist had a B side instead of lovesong on it. What B side would that have been? Personally I feel "fear of ghosts" would have fitted on the album probably towards the end of it.
I laughed at the DJ saying fascination street having the best bassline. That was snatched off new order's state of the nation!
Does anyone really believe a new album will be released this year? I can't see it happening with them being busy rehearsing for the Sydney disintegration shows and then all the disintegration festival shows over the rest of the year.
Cool that they've recorded 2 new albums but will they remain unreleased like the previous 3 albums (including 4:14 scream) they've talked about? At this rate they'll have more unreleased albums than the 14 albums they've released!
