In Pulp Fiction Uma Thurman (Mia) asks John Travolta (Vincent) if he is an Elvis man or Beatles man. I always thought that question should have been “Are you a Stones man or a Beatles man “ because both the Stones and the Beatles came out of the early sixties Elvis really came out of the fifties. So when you think of comparable 80’s groups I guess the question would be Are you a Cure (man or woman) or are you a Depeche Mode (man or woman) you can like them both (as I do) but you are always going like one better. I am without a doubt a Cure man and woman HA HA. Now I thought of adding the Smiths in there but the question from Pulp Fiction was one or the other.
Although i have a lot of time for Depeche Mode (with the exception of their first 3 albums which were somewhat lacking in substance). But I'd take The Cure over them any time. As for the b**tles. They were nothing but a wishy washy boy band. I did like Elvis, but only his early work with The Attractions. He did start to go off the boil with Trust, which was a mess frankly. As for Almost Blue, what a heap o' carp. After that. His production work on East Side Story was a damn fine effort too.
the cure are my favourite band, have been for 30 years this year.(it’s ‘our’ anniversary too😄) no one really comes close really. (i do like depeche mode, altough mainly just the alan wilder years),the smiths i don’t have any time for....
