I hope they go as extreme as they can with the setlist for both, 2 hours of unrelenting squee for Hyde Park will be absolutely brilliant!
And just a bleak 2 hour gaze into the abyss for Meltdown - Short Term Effect should be as cheery as it gets.
I'm a bit lost and confused about the Meltdown thing. I thought the Hyde Park gig was going to be the only Europen concert, but some weeks later, this Meltdown show appeared. Then I read Bob was going to be on stage with some people, guess not the regular current line up, and now I read it's going to be a full show, probably dark and extreme, wich is my thing.
So, where this "2018 only european gig" went, then? What exactly is going to happen at the Meltdown Fest? Why I don't live in London?

When he was on the radio the other week he admitted that in saying BST was the only European show he realised he had sort of stitched himself up. That's why this is being billed as Curaetion 25. On the radio he described it as him & four of his closest musical friends playing songs from The Cure's back catalogue.
So... Friday I'm in Love, Why Can't I Be You, Hot, Hot, Hot!!!, Inbetween Days, Just Like Heaven, Lullaby, High, Pictures of You, Let's Go to Bed, Boys Don't Cry, Mint Car, The Walk, The Lovecats, The End Of The World, Alt. End, etc... for me.

The good stuff for the Meltdown lucky ones.
I'm so depressed.
You and me both, but hey Robert could just walk onto the stage and stand/sit there for 2 hours doing nothing... I'd still enjoy the show.

Something similar happened in 2011. They announced the Reflections shows in Sydney & Vivid even stated "this will be the first, and only, time The Cure perform these albums in succession." then later that year they announced Bestival. Naturally the UK was easier to get to than Australia for a lot of folks, especially in Europe. Plus the Reflections tickets sold out pretty damn quickly. Then they suddenly announced more Reflections shows in London & the US. I know loads of people had travelled to the Bestival date & were slightly miffed to discover they'd have to fork out to travel again for the Reflections shows.
So he is basically saying that Hyde Park wil be full of "pop" songs.....
No. I didn't see him say that anywhere in the interview. He said it'd be "hands in the air" which is more like what a lot of us have predicted as being a celebration of The Cure.
Ok but what does it mean in terms of songs ? I don't see many people "hands in the air" on Cold or Bloodflowers ;-)
Rennes 1996/ Nîmes 1998/ Paris 2000 x2/ Carhaix 2002/ London 2002/ Brussels 2002/ Hamburg 2002/ Berlin 2002/ Aix les bains 2004/ Six fours 2004/ Werchter 2004/ St Malo 2005/Paris 2008/ Paris 2016/ Hyde Park 2018/ Malahide Castle 2019/ Saint-Cloud 2019/ Lyon 2022/ Montpellier 2022/ Toulouse 2022/ Bordeaux 2022/ Nantes 2022/ Strasbourg 2022/ Lievin 2022/ Paris 2022/ London 2022 x3…

FTEOTDGS?
For sure...
I guess it will be like an retrospective of the most sucessful songs of each album. Thats why i don't expect an faith encore ... no one lifts their hands...
I have the feeling that people don't really dance (or jump) even on the pop tunes (with the very rare exception of bcc), they don't do the 'oooohohooooo' on play for today, they don't throw their 'arms in the sky' on fteotdgs... no fun, the audience is disappointing
Anyone has a spare edition of the paper edition of The Guardian for me?

The Cure is touring again. We can say that in 2018, happy news...
