I've been in touch with the manager of The Penelopes who has sent me their press release as follows
Live at Robert Smith’s Meltdown Festival / 17 June 2018 - 5pm
Since their move to London from their native Paris suburbs, the Art-Pop duo The Penelopes (Axel Basquiat and Vincent T), have certainly been making waves. Their formidable list of remix work includes a line of up of Lana Del Rey, Pet Shop Boys, and Alt-J. In addition, they have worked on a number of soundtrack compositions with the likes of Asia Argento among others.
The Penelopes regularly appear at Cannes Film Festival and have provided music at events for fashion houses including, Prada, agnès b., Jean Charles de Castelbajac, further linking the group to the worlds of fashion and film. Legendary radio stations such as BBC6 Music, KCRW and Virgin Radio have been endorsing and support The Penelopes.
The band is very proud to be the seminal French band to be included in Robert Smith's very special line up which will take place this Sunday at the Southbank Centre in London. To be asked to play at the Meltdown Festival was personally a huge honour for both Axel and Vincent who are a huge fans of The Cure, who they see as a major influence towards their music career. In addition, they have been supported by Les Inrocks magazine, who have been a true advocate of the band and this upcoming, unique event.
In 2018, The Penelopes are determined to bring their unique French style and influences to the airwaves, recording and producing from their HQ in Bethnal Green in East London. The dynamic within the band is faultless. Being childhood friends, they operate in a manner that is open, bespoke yet hugely ambitious. Axel composes and delivers a vocal that is both weighted and grave, while Vincent T. takes care of the production and ties their work together seamlessly.
Needless to say, their work ethic drives them forward. The Penelopes are now working on a new album “A Collection of Dance Songs for Loners” that will feature a bevy of international thespians.
