The timing matches up perfectly with the live version, but that's easy to achieve. The guitar playing doesn't scream "Pearl" to me, but it's hard to be sure. Also, the drums sound electronic-ish…
I still think it is gorgeous. Imagine what the Cure's studio version will sound like.
Also, unless this was made before Pearl left the band (doubtful since it is has been a few years) it wouldn't sound like him...
one more thing; if this did come from 4:13, I think the lyrics would be on the site.... I think, I don't know... he said he had enough for two albums, but only lyrics for 2 songs are there... unless they only publish the lyrics once the songs are released? I don't know how it works!
I had the privilege of seeing this performed at the Sydney Concert - front and centre - had my camera as always but hadn't expected to be quite so close and the lens I had fitted was making for some up close and personal viewing - during this song the raw emotion that was expressed was incredible - with a single tear rolling down his face. I thought perhaps I had imagined it... but upon looking at the photos, that is exactly what it was. Such a touching song and clearly one that has a very significant personal meaning to Robert. Truly beautiful.

Oh, there's an interview with Jason on a french drummer magazine where he confirms the song is from the 4:13 sessions
Talking about intensity, the rise in dynamics in the unreleased song "It Can Never Be The Same" is very effective : A long moment without "charley", then another with "charley" in the times then on the eighth notes tight "charley", and finally on eighth notes mid-opened and without fill !
JC : I use a lot this stuff very effective : Every eight measures, you add an element ou a sound, and it rises naturally while leaving a lot of space. Our last album released in 2008 was supposed to be a double album. For a reason that I don't know, it hasn't been the case, so a lot of songs have remained on the tile, like this one.
guedzilla - ahhh!! I must have skipped over this part, it was a lot to read! Well, then I guess this song has nothing to do with Robert's mother passing away, since it happened in 2015. That was another speculation.
