My take on this is basically brevity. Being one who makes statements that evaporate in a flash with the addition of thousands of others attempting the same. So many “words of wisdom” from so many sources that all have little worth, as they are soon forgotten.
I've mentioned elsewhere on the forum that I lived in Horley in the early eighties. The band were definitely finished after the pornography tour. everyone in all the pubs in town knew it. I think Smith wrote those words because thats what he thought too. It was the end but how glorious!
definitely one of the most gloomy lyrics of robert, like the rest of the album pornography. I think that along with the top two records are the most affected by 'drug use of our boys. but 'that wonderful song !!!!!!

Often find this bassline creeping around in my mind. The musical backdrop, atmosphere, soundtrack, whatever you want to name it, draws you into its world of mood. It seems to create a writhing soundscape for the excellent descriptively, heartfelt lyrics.
