I had to mention the Mighty Lemon Drops because that leads me on to my real obession as a teenager - The Family Cat. They are probably one of the least famous bands that I followed in my early twenties, but out of all the bands I followed, these were the only ones that I followed to every gig (within reason) and bought every 7", 12", acetate and album etc. Funnily enough, I knew nothing about them on the day that I first saw them. They happened to be the support band for The Mighty Lemon Drops at the Dominion theatre on Tottenham Court Road. Me and my 2 friends were purely there to see TMLD, but this new young band came on stage with not 1, not 2 but 3 electric guitars, plus the bass. From the moment they played the first song they made the MLD look like the old men of dad rock. These new kids were where it was at !! Hopefully the vids below give a feel for what they were like but it's hard to get good footage of them. My and my friends still maintain that The Family Cat were one of the best bands to never make, mainly down to the NME not giving them any decent exposure at all (apart from the odd article like the one described below. Although they never gained fame, they are notable for featuring PJ Harvey on 2 of their songs, before she was famous. You can see her in the video I've included (ironically, one of my least favourite songs of theirs). Any way, see what you think.
