No worries. Lots of old threads that need life breathing into them, so thanks for doing that. Always worth using the search to see if they already exist
I haven't read Ten Imaginary Years for a long time and haven't read Lol's book yet (I have it but keep it for later) so i'm a bit afraid to ask things that may have an answer already...
My mind was wandering during work today (for shame!) and I thought of the following questions:
1) Which musicians / composers do you most admire? I want to make a distinction between admiration and necessarily liking their music. There might be individuals they admire for certain reasons while not necessarily being drawn to their work.
2) How has being a musician for so many years impacted your body and / or health? What do you do to take care of yourself physically?
3) What other career would you be interested in having? (I'm sure they have had this question before, but since I've had a gazillion different careers / jobs, I'm genuinely curious).
4) Do you cook? Do you clean?
5) About which charitable causes are you passionate?
6) How do you survive long periods of time on the road?
I would hate to ask questions. I don’t like asking anybody questions since I don’t want to seem nosy, which sometimes is confused with lack of interest, so If I had to interview Robert Smith, I think I would say: “Do You have something You want to discuss or share, then please go ahead” and then the ball is on his court.
Then I might ask exploring questions to what he says...

@ninja, he might appreciate your approach. He doesn't strike me as someone who *doesn't* have a lot on his mind so it might just be a matter of feeling like talking or not. A lot of people who have to give interviews all the time would probably appreciate your approach if they were more extroverted or prone to discourse, but maybe not someone like, say, Daniel Johnston. - Is that really true that the name The Cure was chosen at random, 'out of the hat'? - What were the other potential names? - Who made The Cure logo?
- Who had the idea of using images instead of track names? - Didn't / Don't you think that the actual record sleeve is a good one? - Did you have an idea for the album cover instead of the household appliances, what would it have looked like?
- Didn't you talk with Chris Parry about your choice of songs for the album? - If you had chosen the tracklist for the album, what would it have been? - There is a small rough guitar riff just before tib. It appeared later that it can be heard on the TIB Deluxe bonus disc at the very beginning of the intro to 'faded smiles'. There, the guitar riff is followed by a few bass notes. But strangely to me, it sounds like the riff and theses bass notes are 'artificially' linked. There is like a kind of 'cut' between the riff and the bass. As if in the original recording after the riff there was for example maybe a few seconds of blank sound, or maybe a conversation, or a long time of un-interesting noise, that have been cut-off, to thus link the riff and the bass-guitar intro. Isn't that correct?
- Who chose the kaa as first single, then bdc, and jset? and the b sides? and the records sleeves? - Would you have chosen different single? different b-side? different record sleeves?
BDC
- Did you have your say in the decision to release the BDC compilation for the US market instead of TIB? - Did you talk (with whoever) about the track list? - About originally 'jumping' being the first track and then changing it and putting bdc first? - About the choice of using the 'fire in Cairo' image as record cover?
Why are you releasing the new Torn Down (Mixed-up extras) on 2LP Picture Disc? Don't you care about how it sounds? Picture discs are for framing on the wall, not for playing on a turntable.

Yegads.

Thankfully it's getting a CD release as well as a regular vinyl release (if you can trust the pressing plant not to screw that up).

Ah that is good to know! I just saw the RSD list and shook my head in disdain, picture discs, lol. They had it in the "exclusive to RSD" so I guess they're just referring to the specific variant (splatter, picture, whatever) and not the collection of songs.
Good to know for vinyl fans they can get a version worth buying for playing, yeah hopefully it's not being pressed at Rainbo or United. Given the source material isn't specifically called out, I'll just go with the CD and hope the mastering is halfway dynamic. If the source material was analogue tape and this was actually being cut directly from tape vs. being digitally remastered, OR if it was receiving a separate vinyl mastering (it's few and far between, but it does happen sometimes like Adele's 25) then I'd look for the 2LP black vinyl. If it's not specifically called out, I'll assume it's the same digital mastering the CD is being created from and will save mesel' some bucks.
Cheers.
