Now enjoying 25.06.1995 Pilton - Worthy Farm (England).
In the old days (back in the 1990s), this would have been known as the "Dressing Up For A Day Out" audience recording. Although I have this show in various versions, the old soundboard single disc version still charms.
A Forest Fan, do you happen to have a lossless recording of Cambridge? I probably have the same recording as you which sounds pretty nice but unfortunately it is very lossy. Thanks by advance.
Listening to 01.11.1996 Zaragoza - Palacio Deportes (Spain). Is it my imagination or does Club America sound like a dull version of Never Enough? Don't like either song.
I can imagine the audience wishing they were getting something from the eighties, instead.
So many songs without redemptive qualities on Wild Mood Swings.Round and Round and Round, Strange Attraction, Treasure. Does anyone ever request these? My favorite song on the album, Bare, is something I can do without.
Mint Car is still oddly fun. For some reason I had it in my head that it was an actual Mint-scented car, how enticing! But I guess he means that it still has sticker shock.
For you non-Americans, host David Letterman is thankfully retired...

Must say I can't even watch more than 20 seconds of that video (and not *just* because of obnoxious DL) because I cannot stand Mint Car.
In any event (rhymes with mint), I picture Mint Car as a green car made out of this stuff because the idea of RS singing about a car in "mint" condition just doesn't fly as much as a car made out of mint, to me.
For me, every Cure song has to have some magical connotation.
At least we didn't have to watch Robert sprawled out over the hood of a Cooper Mini, with this song playing in the background, saying "The new Cooper Mini, the cure for your driving blues!"

Kicking off 06.11.1996 Paris - le Bataclan (France) AUD0. The French crowd is astonished and delighted when the opening track is Subway Song. WTF (What the Fu toi!)
As the setlist notes say:
Do you notice anything special about this setlist? Any self respecting Cure fan will see that there are two songs from each album (up to Wild Mood Swings) in chronological order. It's a setlist to die for! Apparently, "Never Enough" was slotted between "Prayers for Rain" and "High," but they skipped it to shorten the setlist because the venue was too hot.
I have no idea what equipment was used for the recording, but it is crisp, clear, and wonderful. I've had the CDRs for this gig from a trade almost two decades ago, and wanted to digitize it before the CDRs start to degrade.
Bataclan ...I hated Bataclan. Horrible. That was the worst concert actually. Lots worst than Stuttgart. I thought it was much too hot. We didn't have any fans on stage. I asked for fans and there wasn't a single fan in the building. That was incredible. Even if I was like 21, I would need a fan!!! It was so hot I was gonna die, and I kept running out of water on stage because they forget to give me some. That is a minor point, but when it turned out you have five seconds to get a drink and there's nothing there... I was really angry. It just didn't work for me. Just I really hated ever second of it from the moment we started to the moment we finished. There was a foul mood when we got back to the hotel.
But every fan enjoyed this show!!! Do you reckon? I think it's one of the things there's kind of a nostalgia or like "I was there" ...
No I think they enjoyed it because you played unusual songs. You we're wondering before if the people cared about "Subway Song" and I can tell you yes. The people there were real fans. Yes I suppose that's what made the difference, but as a concert it was rubbish.
Do you really think that? Yeah. If you compare that as a performance, and everything about it to the Bercy show, I think the Bercy show was infinitely better. I was really angry the next day because Bill phoned up and said "oh people said it was the best show you've done in France in ten years" I thought "It's fudging bollix, it is."
That's not the same thing. I don't think we can compare I thought doing "Funeral Party" was good. But even "Subway Song" was really fudged because they got me the wrong harmonica, in the wrong key.
Nobody noticed that! I did. It's supposed to be B flat, and they gave me B. They just said don't blow as hard and it'll sound the same. And also I think because there was so many things going on that day that I didn't really enjoy it. There was too much, and I think going back through Paris, when I got on stage my head was just spinning. If I had gone for a beer for a couple of hours and got into the mood I would have enjoyed the concert. But I felt like I was just part of the side show.
You got stressed? I didn't get into the atmosphere at all. That would have been the kind of show if we'd have been up in the dressing room for an hour before we went on, everyone would have been really excited. It would have been really good, but we just kind of arrived, and went on stage. It wasn't really that much fun. I don't know about the others, but I don't think Simon enjoyed it. They said the reason it wasn't really good, is because it was too long, and because I was too pedantic about having two songs from every album. I should just have one song from every album.
That's why you skipped "Never Enough" Yeah. I mean I could see that point actually. If we had done one song from every album it would only have been a thirteen song set.

Enjoying 10 novembre 96 Lille - Zénith. The audience didn't have much reaction to Numb. Accuracy in titling, perhaps?
They actually screamed for Mint Car. This might be something like Stockholm syndrome or reverse psychology. After the dullness of Numb, Mint Car sounded exciting by comparison.

What I really like about the WMS 1996 tour is that the bonus songs are a more varied mix. Hearing Funeral Party, Catch, and Charlotte Sometimes thrown into Le Zenith show, it really feels like a celebratory tour.
Haven't reached any sets yet with "the 13th". Where The Cure meets Shakira. I love Shakira, saw her in concert back in 2011. I just can't picture mixing the two...
Three posts on one show is a little much, but there is a lot going on with these 1996 shows that are of interest:
* Play for Today gets that lovely French touch of the audience singing the keyboard line as a fan-participation chorus.
* This tour solidifies what I think of as the normal close to a Cure show: Boys Don't Cry, 10:15 Saturday Night, and Killing an Arab. The audience was clearly shocked at the last number, at this point in the tour schedule this was like hearing Burn in 2013.
Getting through a spectacular version of A Forest right now from 24.11.1996 Kiel - Ostseehalle (Germany). What a fun show! The band plays a lot of kooky stuff like Funeral Party, Like Cockatoos, Subway Song, and The Figurehead.
If they had a time machine, this would be a treat to visit...
