That being said, I stopped paying attention to anything he says a long time ago. I'm sure I disagree with him politically, but I think it's silly to boycott artists because we disagree with their actions or opinions.
I'm on the far left end of the spectrum, but I disagree with many of my leftist friends--they seem to enjoy calling people out, singling them out because of any perceived transgressions, however minor. It gets old after a while.
I think the fact his opinions are clearly voiced in his material speaks volumes & worthy of being given a very wide berth. Everyone's entitled to opinions, but he will force his upon entire venues if they want him to play there & that's just wrong on every level. He'll sure boycott those venues that won't comply. On top of that, I'd hardly describe being a contemptible bigot as "minor". As for the new album, it was album of the day on the radio this week sometime & what I heard sounded like music Nintendo rejected for a Super Mario game.
I know Morrissey is disliked by a lot of people, but I've always enjoyed his music. I have all of his albums...just received "Low in High School." Haven't put it on yet.
Whats your fav solo album? (He's said some pretty grim things in Spiegel this week, his comments about Berlin and Kevin Spacey in particular)
Hard to say. Probably Southpaw Grammar. I also really like Bona Drag and Beethoven Was Deaf, but those are not proper albums.

Pretty strong words there. I didn't say Morrissey's transgressions were minor. I said that my leftist friends will castigate others for minor transgressions.
Something to consider is that Morrissey is gay. I have gay friends who are anti-Islam because Islam kills gay people.

I stand corrected, but I will be very clear on the "Islam kills gay people" assumption & then leave the religious rhetoric alone. Islam doesn't kill gay people. Some radical Muslim extremists kill gay people because they interpret the Quran in such a way that that is what they should do. Much like "honour killings" of women. The same could be said for Christian texts. But neither text condones the murder of anybody. In any case, not that it matters one bit, he is most definitely not gay.

I haven’t read his autobiography, but I read that it contains confessions of homosexuality.
“Islam kills gay people” is the reason my gay friends give for being anti-Islam. I am aware of the fine point you are making and the difference between your opinion and theirs.
I agree with you.
However, the Christian Bible does condone killing. The Old Testament states you should take your son outside the city limits and stone him to death if he disobeys you.

But (if I remember correctly) only if a council of elders determines his crime is worthy of severe punishment.

It doesn't. He alludes to it, but never specifically. Again it's all interpretation. Subsequent interviews have since blown it out of the water. But, like I said. His sexuality doesn't matter one bit. His bigotry, on the other hand, needs reining in. As does his disrespect for fans who have paid & probably travelled to his concerts.

I can separate the art from the artist. I do like some of his songs and I do like the new one. I would not buy it though.

People in Hollywood and the entertainment world have power over others and abuse that power by making people do things they would not do otherwise. That is what people are trying to put a stop to once and for all. He either doesn't get nor wants to get or just plain doesn't give a sh*t. I get what he is saying in one part “People know exactly what happens. And they play along. Afterward, they feel embarrassed, or they do not like it." but what would have happened if they accused those people of misconduct back in the day? They get blackballed. Their careers are over. That's not fair? We all know how it was and how it played out. If some of the female (and maybe even male) stars of long ago were alive I'm sure it would be an accusation festival. I can't imagine what went on in the early days of Hollywood. It was probably a living nightmare. He's a goof.
