Interviewer: If you could have one god-like power such as your title now, what would it be?
Robert: Uh, to ban religion for a year, actually to stop everyone believing in god for just one year and see how the world turns.

I've just noticed Simon has "Ernie Ball" on his strap. I just bought off Amazon my very first replacement strings for my 25 year old guitar, and they were Ernie Ball too! I have something in common with the Master Of Bass :-)

Yes, these are Ernie Ball brand straps. These are longer than the usual straps and I believe it's the main reason Simon chooses these, as he plays with the bass lower than his waist (and he's tall too).
As a matter of fact, when I first searched for a strap to buy for myself (I play quite low too), the Ernie Ball was the only strap available with the required length (well, there were some others too, but they were hideous-looking!) so I got this. I found out about Simon's strap brand afterwards, and I thought "Well, I know why!"

What kind of pick does Simon use? Anyone have one that can post a pic?
Don't have one, but I saw a picture someone who got a couple of picks after the Sydney shows posted. Can't manage to find the picture now of course, but a quick google search gave me this and if I remember correctly the picks from the Sydney show looked the same so he probably still uses those.

My first bass was an SG, in an effort to copy the Gallup/Hooky approach I went over the scrap heap and cut the seat belt out of an old Vauxhall created a strap which hung the guitar at knee height
