I got into them circa 2005 when I was in 8th grade- would have been around 14 years old at the time. We had a really bad power outage in our neighborhood which lasted almost a week, and so one of the things I did to pass the time was listen to Standing On A Beach, Galore, and Disintegration on my battery-powered walkman. I discovered The Cure through AFI, my favorite band at the time, because they covered Just Like Heaven, and so I had my parents buy me a few Cure CDs. I remember being totally blown away by the bass playing on songs like Killing An Arab, and also the length of certain songs on Disintegration. I had no idea you could write songs longer than 5 minutes at the time LOL.
1988,i was 15. around this time, bbc radio 1 would have an ‘in concert’ show on a saturday night,an hour of a band live.i already knew i liked the cure from some of their singles ( just like heaven, inbetween days, close to me etc ) so i decided to record this weeks ‘in concert:the cure, birmingham n.e.c december 1987’....... the version of ‘a forest’ just blew me away....that was it,the cure were now my favourite band.i still have the cassette recording too🙂
in fact,here it is😄
