ccheerrrs i think i'm not the only one who thi k that THOTD is not the best album from that year, it is my fav album from the boys though, i found FaLaA, and i was surprised, on book called 1000 albums to have....unfortunately i didn't found THOTD. however it didn't influence me, i told i voted for th SOM because lie makes no sense
It seems like the writer has got bad taste in music, can't think of anything else... Or maybe Andrew paid him to say a good word!
1 9 8 5 you said? A great year in post-punk/dream-pop/alternative music in general if you wish. And yes your choice ranks among the best as it seems. I do like The Chams album 'What Does Anything Mean? Basically' The Smiths - Meat Is Murder Even Kate's Bush-Hounds Of Love sounds good to me don't forget about the Netherland's guys (C.O.X.) not their best though.
Shriekback- 'Oil & Gold' etc. ...
i think not, he mentioned some of the albums you named plus Nucturne by Siouxsie...the other are utter crap
The good thing about voting there is that you can place 10 albums on the list all together. So I gave my votes both to THOTD and to FALAA (the best debut ever in my opinion). THODT is very good but not amongst Top 5 of The Cure foe me either way. To feel even lighter, I gave vote to A-Ha and to Laibach (both of albums from that year) also.
The thing there that hurts me most is that Pornography was only No. 2 in 1982 behind Duran Duran!?!?!?! On the other way Faith was No. 1 in 1981 - fully deserved, although competition was very strong. When you see the list of Top 10 from for example 1981 or 1982 - it's just to tear yourself apart for living in such an musical era today! hidesbehindsofa
